繼往開來

LY I found the dual roles manageable, and time management is the key. Back in
the days when I was young and motivated, my routine was heading to the
School in the morning, then back to CKY in the afternoon. Sometimes I even
return to the School at night. My strategy was to focus on the task in front of
me, work wholeheartedly and complete it.

Which period in your professional career you found the most challenging? JY

LY My recollection of the most unforgettable circumstance should be the SARS
period in 2003. HKSC was adversely impacted for its student intake, meanwhile
CKY was less affected in terms of its client portfolio.

In fact, the business environment is more harsh amid the COVID-19 situation
compared to the SARS period. Yet I believe confidence of businesses has been
recovering in view of lessening uncertainties, and CKY could retain the clients
with certain fee adjustments based on discretion.

What is the most gratifying occasion during your professional life? JY

LY I would like to pick those moments when our practice merged with W H Lam
& Company fourteen years ago. I was at my prime age with experience in both
work and relationship. We held a cocktail party to celebrate the merger and I
greeted our new clients and shared my expertise with confidence. This is one
of the assuring achievements to prove CKY could make continual progress and
                       reach further milestones.

As the Senior Consultant of CKY, what is your vision for the Practice? JY

LY The world is constantly changing and we must adapt. For example, no one had
foreseen working-from-home could apply to an accounting practice, yet we
have implemented such a scheme since the pandemic.

In addition, it is very essential to understand and communicate with the new
generation, which is way more different from our generation.

Back in the days I invited Mr W H Lam, Certified Public Accountant, to do a

sharing session with our undergraduates during a visit. One of his words of
wisdom is - “Serve wholeheartedly and selflessly and do not calculate for a
                       return”.
