RETROSPECT AND PROSPECT
Hong Kong faced catastrophic events in 2003. Battling against social distancing and severe acute
respiratory syndrome (SARS), CKY made its countermoves, including setting up a temporary
office at HKSC King's Road Centre for contingency purposes whereby half of the manpower was
relocated there to work. In the meantime, many promotional strategic moves were made to
catch up for more business opportunities. During the same period, CKY maintained very good
relationships with several bankers and it was appointed as intermediaries for HSBC and Hang
Seng Bank to open bank accounts for our clients. Mr Joseph Y K Yau was also appointed as an
advisor for the IBA Bank in the same year.
To expand the consultancy businesses, CKY formed its own consultancy company in Shenzhen
PRC under CEPA in 2004, expanding its market to Mainland China.
In 2005, CKY merged with W H Lam & Company to form W H Lam & Partners CPA Limited, which
operated at Room 905-6 of Arion Commercial Building in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Next year,
Mr K T Tam and Ms Janice Leung were then promoted to practising directors when our firm was
incorporated as C K Yau & Partners CPA Limited; while Mr Terence Mah was promoted as
director for our Administration and HR department and Ms April Ng was promoted as director
of the secretarial department. Mr K T Tam became one of the founding members for The
Institute of Accountants Exchange in order to acquaint himself with Mainland China
development.
With deep regret, the founder of CKY, Mr Richard C K Yau passed away in 2006.
With an opportunity to buy two floors close to our existing premises in 2007, both companies
started to move and work together at 11-13/F Pico Tower, Wanchai, Hong Kong. A cocktail
reception for the firm’s 45th anniversary was held in the office to commemorate the event. CKY
also joined The International Accounting Group (TIAG), expanding its international network with
accountants and lawyers around the world. Meanwhile, CKY proactively improves its staff
welfare and it is still doing so by firstly changing to alternate Saturday-off work week in favour
to staff for more personal time.
