RETROSPECT AND PROSPECT
In 2012, the Manpower Developer Award for SME was granted by the Employees Retraining
Board to CKY for its continuous devotion to manpower development. In order to maintain this
status, there will be a bi-annual renewal process to ensure the compliance of the
requirements. As CKY maintains its focus on the staff development and to protect its staff from
overloading of stress, it started the 5-day work week campaign. A trip to Taiwan was also held
for all staff together with their families and friends to celebrate CKY's 50th anniversary, which
strengthened the bondings within the firm. We also launched our company’s logo design
competition and confirmed its use up till now. In the same year, after being granted with
HKICPA Authorized Employer, ACCA Approved Employer, CPA Australia Recognised Employer
Partner, CKY joined TIHK as an Accredited Employer for CTA students.
In 2013, Ms Lindy W W Yau retired from the practice but continued to serve as a Senior
Consultant.
In 2014, CKY hosted the international conference for TIAG in Hong Kong for building better
cooperative relationships with accountants and lawyers from around the world.
In 2016, Mr W H Lam, former director of CKY, passed away.
It was not much later for CKY’s next revamp on the management board. In 2019, Mr Joseph Y K
Yau retired as the managing director but continued to serve as a senior practising director on
future planning and development. His long-time partner Mr K T Tam filled his post as the new
managing director in leading and navigating the firm. In order to face new digital development,
new blood was brought in. Mr Wilson Yau and his wife Ms Annie Lai were both promoted as
practising directors of the firm.
It was unfortunate that in June 2020, the office in Shenzhen, China was closed due to the
prolonged COVID-19 pandemic situation and the cross-border restrictions across China.
However the strategic plan for the Firm never stops. C B Wong & Company merged its practice
with CKY in 2020, providing positive synergy in sharing resources. The office was renovated to
provide a more working-friendly environment for its expanding daily operations. It was also the
beginning for the Firm to face paperless working conditions.
In 2021, the Legislative Council passed the proposal for the Accounting and Financial Reporting
Council to take up the major regulatory roles, such as issuance of the Practising Certificates,
from the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and to monitor its
remaining activities. This is truly a major change and possibly challenges for the then Hong Kong
Society of Accountants established in 1973 to HKICPA now and for all the Practising Accountants
like us.
